The Nairobi Chamber Chorus is in Britain to perform in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant at Windsor Castle, 10-12 May. On 6 May the Chorus performed in Slough, hosted by the Kenya Society. Among the speakers at the event were former Kenyan Attorney General Charles Njonjo, former British High Commissioner to Kenya Sir Jeffrey James, Mayor of Slough, Sukhjit Kaur Dhaliwal, senior Commissioner at the Kenyan High Commision, Dr Joe Sang and Dr Alan Channer from Initiatives of Change's FLTfilms.

Cameroon, the land of Promise as they call it, has created an opportunity for passionate African change makers to take stock of what has been the history of Africa, celebrate its potential and build a future they want to see!

Kenya’s Baringo County is home to several pastoral communities whose livelihood depends on cattle. These communities are also known in Kenya for cattle-rustling. The scramble for pasture and water often leaves people counting their losses. In many instances, death and injuries are reported, on top of the animals stolen. Thirty-five leaders, representing all the main groups, gathered in Marigat town, near Lake Baringo, from 20-22 April, for a workshop entitled ‘Trust-building for sustainable development.

Leon Marincowitz, a young man from South Africa and an alumni of Harambee Africa 6 in Nigeria, won an award after participating in the Raven Foundation sponsored contest on an essay that best communicates the theme of Violence and Religion. Leon wrote an essay titled 'Unravelling Nigeria's Violence!' drawing a lot from his experience in Nigeria during Harambee programme.

On 2 March Nombulelo Khanyile, Pieter Horn and Abiodun Owoseni, members of the Initiatives of Change Africa Coordination Group, visited Tanzania, accompanied by Mediatrix Masava from Kenya .

COMMENTARIES

In the last week a video campaign called Kony 2012 has gone viral. At the time of posting this article, over 27 million around the world have viewed it on YouTube and many more on Vimeo and other video hosting sites. The campaign, by US-based 'Invisible Children' calls for the arrest of Joseph Kony, head of the Lord's Resistance Army, who is indicted by the International Criminal Court. Jean Brown from Australia, who is in touch with peacemakers in the areas impacted by Kony, writes.

Thanks to the international farmers’ meeting organised by the Rwandan Initiatives of Change team, in November 2011, I was able to make a third trip to Rwanda and meet with people who are warm-hearted, generous, hard-working and forward-thinking despite the ever-present traces of the past.
