Change in Progress

Afrique du SudInitiatives of Change South Africa’s Change in Progress (CiP) program will host its third camp at the Golden Gate highlands national Park near the villages of Clarens, QwaQwa this December. Participants are between the ages of 18 – 25, a mix of high school, college and university students, from Botshabelo, South Africa and Gweru, Zimbabwe. Outreach activities will take place in Botshabelo community; in the Free State province, South Africa. The camp will take place from the 4th until 15th December 2015, and  faculty constitute four mentors, two facilitators and four invited guests’ speakers.

Program overview

The program is based around five days camp and four days of outreach activities with various local NGOs, including Botshabelo youth community development centre. The training will focus on four key topics: “who am I, family and history, social entrepreneurship and service leadership”. The outreach activities provides a platform for participants to engage with members of society, to address the issues of generational gaps at the old age centre, pioneering self development with youth in the youth centre (we hope to form a partnership for future work with this NGO) and gain skills of service at the day care centre.

Outcomes

Hoped for outcomes of the program: the youth gaining life skills such as understanding etiquette and  living in healthy relationships, beginning their process of reconciliation and inner healing, empowered leaders with skills of communication, decision making, art of service and social entrepreneurship, and to create a network of inspired youth who can become peace builders and change catalysts for themselves, their families and community.

The program will promote and create awareness of IofC in the Free State Province. This camp is a follow up of the “Freedom Our Responsibility” conference that was held last year in Bloemfontein, in partnership with the Lindie Fourie Foundation international, who partnered with IofC to make the award winning documentary film ‘Beyond Forgiving’.
