The sixth Eastern Africa Youth Forum call for application

The Eastern Africa region has a huge population with an average of 70% of the population being youths. This has led to an increase in youth’s engagement in the leadership of various sectors in the East African countries. While focusing at the Sustainable Development Goals we understand that ethical leadership is key towards achieving the goals and development of our countries. With more youths being aware of the need to take up leadership roles, there is need to spark conversations on ethical leadership.

The 6th EAYF concept seeks to look into ethical leadership practices and their importance in propelling development processes. It also aims at creating an educative platform through which youths will learn from mentors, share knowledge and skills on leadership practices and be reminded of their roles in making their countries achieve good governance through ethical leadership practices.

 Forum Objective

As we continue to envision an Africa that is economically prosperous, politically vibrant, ecologically sustainable and socially inclusive, a continent of people who celebrate their cultural heritage and diversity bringing hope to the world, the 6th EAYF will be addressing the theme on “Ethical leadership, key to better nations”.

In every leadership cycle, young people are either involved in the process or they assume leadership positions. This could be in government systems or in the corporate sectors. This forum will look into the various issues relating to leadership in our region and their impacts on the youths. Issues like corruption, youth unemployment, poor relationships, lack of dedicated mentors among many other issues have led to bad leadership practices persistent in our region.

EAYF 6 will offer an opportunity to explore into these and other issues related to leadership with an aim to influence ethical practices amongst youths. Given the format of our forum, participants will have an opportunity to learn from each other and develop strategies that will guide in the practices of ethical leadership.
