Delegates engaging during EAYF 2 in Kampala

The planning team of Eastern Africa Youth Forum (EAYF) (previously known as Eastern Africa Youth Conference-EAYC), together with the Initiatives of Change (IofC) Rwanda are pleased to invite applications to the third Eastern African Youth Forum to be held in Kigali, Rwanda. Under the theme ‘Moral values: the key to a brighter future’, 90 young leaders (aged between 18-35 years) from the Eastern Africa bloc, together with a wide and experienced array of speakers, will explore sub-themes including accountable leadership, economic empowerment and youth stewardship. The forum will run from 18th through 23rd February 2013 at the La Palisse Hotel, Kigali. This is the third forum to be held and the first in a Francophone country within the Eastern Africa Region. Kenya hosted the first in 2011 while Uganda hosted the second in February 2012. (Click here for the application form in English and click here for the application form in French and send it back to eayc@iofc.org)

During the conference, there will be three workshops – ICT, Entrepreneurship & HIV/AIDS, running simultaneously for two days in the afternoon. A special afternoon focused on ‘Healing memories and Reconciliation,’ will also be held during the conference. As part of learning from Rwanda’s history, the participants will have an opportunity to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre.

Applications are welcome from Eastern Africa citizens (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia). We also accept a few applications from other African countries as well as friends of goodwill from around the world.

Cost of participation: Each participant is expected to pay a highly subsidized participation fee of USD 200 (excluding transport to and from the venue).

We believe that meaningful youth engagement is built on the recognition that every young person has something to contribute to the active betterment of society. Research has shown that youth who are positively engaged and are active participants in society, turn into adults with less health, career, family and societal traumas and distresses. Additionally, they are able to handle their pressures better and in turn, give back to society more effectively and generously. As a result they will have a positive influence on their peers and can even be role models for younger generations. This forum will provide such a platform for the youth to share, learn and change. Moreover, this forum is a great boost to one of the newly adopted ‘Common Actions’ by the IofC International with special focus on Africa as it ties well into the Workshop for Africa concept on governance in Africa.
