(Photo: Unknown)Change in Progress will host its second camp for 15 participants. They are high school students cared for by 5 mentors and faculty at Rocky Valley camp site, Krugersdorp, West of Johannesburg. First part of the camp will start from 30th November until 05th December 2014, Second part from 08th -11th December 2014.

Change in Progress is a 9 day camp and outreach program based on leadership and self-awareness. It is divided into two parts, starting with five days of value based leadership training, and then followed by four days community outreach to teenagers and/or young students and different non-government organisations in their area.

The five days of intensive training on servant leadership and personal development, based upon IoFC’s theory of change approach that includes moral standards, daily quiet time and reflection, story sharing and honest conversations leading towards personal (inner) transformation. The camp will look at:

  • ‘Who am I’ and the importance of family, relationships and history in terms of discovering identify.
  • Leadership: identifying leadership styles based upon ethics and morals. Visionary leader.
  • Nature walk: connect participants to the earth, to realise the importance of environment conservation.
  • Develop entrepreneurial and Social skills… looking at how to share the knowledge gained at the camp with the participant’s community. Segments of Antony Trowbridge’s Community ‘Inter Akrika Plan’ could be introduced here, for example the e-Village concept and the ‘Peace and development’ plan.
  • Outreach days will start the focus of: how can participants mobilise their community? As Trowbridge’s model states - could they find a knowledgeable person on a specific development topic e.g. agriculture/ healthcare to assist them in implementing a module

Outcomes: Focused action

  • Growing Youth with changed hearts and minds, to embrace a future made up of responsible choices and sustainability.
