Kerotet Secondary SchoolFrom 6-12 June and on 17 June 2011, six young people who are members of Kenya I Care programme from Nakuru, Subukia, Nairobi and Eldoret, gathered in Eldoret for a whole week's comprehensive outreach programme. The visiting team shared, inspired and challenged over 2,000 young people in primary and secondary schools, colleges and youth groups about the Kenya we want and how they can take personal leadership and responsibility to make it happen.

‘Najihurumia kuwa mkenya’ (I pity myself being Kenyan’), said some. ‘Nashangaa kuwa mkenya’ (I am worried being a Kenyan) said others.

The big question after comparing the two lists was ‘Who is responsible for all the mess in Kenya?’. This was always welcomed with all sorts of answers ranging from 'the government, the leaders, myself... ' and some even blamed Satan for the problems in Kenya! With personal story sharing, skits and songs from the team, the students were challenged and inspired to create a new generation of change makers equipped and  committed to building a better and brighter Kenya by having a set of values to guide them, and living a reflective life by embracing the art of inner listening.

Just like in very many other Kenya I Care presentations the team had done in the past, most young people really appreciated the sharing and requested us to go back. Others expressed an interest in joining the team. As some of them wrote on the Kenya I Care facebook fan page, ‘Thank you guys for your life changing times with us’ ‘Many have come and gone...but you guys left a huge mark here at Bridges Hospitality College!’

Kenya I Care workshopThe Kenya I Care programme continues to be vibrant and alive, reaching out to many young people in the cities and even in the deepest rural areas. In recent months, the Nakuru and Subukia team have been out and about visiting young people with the message of what needs to be done to get the Kenya we want.

The outreach in Eldoret was made possible by the generosity of Mr and Mrs Shikoli’s family (the family of Mediatrix - an Action for Life 5 graduate) and Mr and Mrs Tororei’s family, who kindly and humbly hosted the team in Eldoret town and in Ziwa area respectively. The team really appreciates the two families for the continued support in making Initiatives of Change activities possible in the region. During our stay with the two families, we were able to build deeper relationships among ourselves and with the families.

The team also wishes to appreciate the following fourteen institutions in Eldoret;

·         Colleges: St Bridges Hospitality College, Eldoret Aviation, Danian College and Ancilia Vocational College

·         Youth Group: Huruma Pentecostal group

·         Secondary Schools: Hill Side, Kapngetuny, Kerotet Girls and Moiben,

·         Primary Schools: Haddy, Kapngetuny, Kerotet, Kapkures and Moiben
